FAQ

If you are experiencing frequent use of your rescue inhaler, wake up at night due to asthma symptoms, take oral steroids like prednisone, and/or have asthma attacks that have required emergency care, then your asthma may be severe or uncontrolled. This, along with a high e-number, can indicate eosinophilic asthma. A blood test can help you determine if further evaluation of your asthma is necessary. Speaking with your primary care provider or asthma specialist about the test results can help identify additional treatment options to help control your asthma.
If you have severe, uncontrolled asthma, you are qualified to receive this test. You can determine your eligibility by completing the pre-test questionnaire that appears when you begin the order process.

This test is intended for adults age 18 and older who have been diagnosed with asthma by a physician.

If you are pregnant, please see your primary care physician, as there may be additional considerations. Further evaluation is often needed to maintain the safety of your unborn child.
When you complete your test order, the request will be evaluated, and if appropriate, authorized by a physician. Once you receive your confirmation email, you can simply walk into any Quest Diagnostics patient service center during its normal hours of operation to get tested.

You can call ahead to check availability or schedule an appointment to avoid potential wait times.

It is recommended that you bring a copy of your requisition form with you to the service center to ensure faster intake and processing.
This service offers more than 2,200 patient service centers nationwide. To find a test center, you will be able to search according to your ZIP code to see locations in your area when placing your test request.

No appointment is required to take the test, but depending on the location, test centers may be busy. We recommend calling ahead to check availability or schedule an appointment to avoid potential wait times. Please be sure to bring your requisition form to ensure faster intake and processing.
Do not exercise within two (2) hours of testing, as this may impact test results.

Do not take this test within seven (7) days of oral corticosteroid use, unless you are on daily steroids to control your asthma. Do not stop taking any medication without first consulting your provider.
You will be tested at a Quest Diagnostics patient service center. The test is a simple blood draw where an experienced health professional will take some blood from a vein in your arm.
This test is called a complete blood count, or CBC. The test helps screen for a wide range of conditions to give an overall view of an individual’s health. A CBC looks at three types of cells in your blood: white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.

Your results will show if you have eosinophils present in your blood. This will help determine whether eosinophils play a role in making your asthma worse.

Discussing your results with a doctor can help determine if you are on the right medications or if you may need further assessment for better control of your asthma.
An asthma specialist can evaluate your e-number and help identify if eosinophils are affecting your asthma.

Please note, the lab report provided by Quest Diagnostics uses a normal range of 15-500 to reflect a general population.
You should expect your results approximately 2-3 days after your sample is collected. PWNHealth will attempt to contact you three times via phone to review your results. If PWNHealth is unable to reach you by phone, you will receive a letter via mail regarding your results. If you have provided a sample at the test center and have not received your results within 10 days, please contact PWNHealth’s customer support at 888-362-4321.
Utilizing the doctor finder, you can search according to your ZIP code and see a list of specialists in your area. The asthma specialist lookup tool is available through your test results page or via the Specialist Lookup page. Please note that this list may not show all the asthma specialists in your area, and it may not have the latest provider information.

Inclusion in this list does not imply a referral, endorsement, or recommendation by AstraZeneca or PWNHealth, nor does it imply a doctor's endorsement of AstraZeneca, any of its products, or PWNHealth.

You can also ask your primary care physician for a referral. You should verify an asthma specialist's participation/acceptance of your health insurance.
If you are already seeing an asthma specialist, it may be helpful to ask about eosinophils and share the results of your blood test with them. Providing your e-number and getting additional testing and evaluation can help you understand your results and can lead to better control of your asthma.
AstraZeneca and PWNHealth will not share your results with your doctor. You will have access to your results through your secure and confidential account.

We recommend that you print your results and bring them with you to your appointment with your asthma specialist or primary care provider for further discussion.
